What is PEMF? And Why I Personally Use It

A Simple Introduction to Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

You are only as healthy as your cells.

That has been part of my understanding of the body for many years. Everything begins at the cellular level—how cells produce energy, how they eliminate waste, and how they communicate.

Every organ, every tissue, every function in the body depends on how well your cells are working.

So… what is PEMF?

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field.

In simple terms, PEMF uses gentle pulsed electromagnetic signals to interact with the body. These signals can pass through tissues and influence cellular activity—particularly how cells manage energy, oxygen, and balance.

Your body is not only chemical—it is electrical.
Every cell carries a charge, and every function depends on that balance

My father, Dr. Ralph U. Sierra, designed a large coil and combined it with powerful magnets—creating a powerful electromagnetic field for therapeutic use, which he referred to as electromagnetic therapy. Today, it is known as PEMF.

Electromagnetic therapy

When electricity flows through a coil, it creates an electromagnetic field.

When that energy is delivered in pulses, it becomes a constantly changing field. And that changing field is what allows it to interact with the body.

At different levels:
• Electron
• Molecular
• Biological

When that balance is supported, the body is better able to do what it was designed to do.

Your body is already electrical

Your body is not only chemical—it is electrical.
• Your heart generates electromagnetic activity
• Your brain sends electrical signals
• Your cells maintain electrical balance

So PEMF is not something foreign.

It interacts with processes that are already happening in your body every second.

Why the cell matters

Every cell has basic responsibilities:
• Produce energy
• Eliminate waste
• Repair itself
• Perform its function

When these processes slow down, the body begins to feel it.

PEMF supports the environment where these processes occur.

Think about the cell membrane

The cell membrane is one of the most important parts of the cell.

Membrane

It controls what enters and what leaves.

You can think of it like a door that opens and closes to let things in and out.

When that “door” doesn’t function well:
• Nutrients don’t enter properly
• Waste doesn’t leave efficiently

Supporting this function is key to cellular balance.

What does this mean for the body?

When cells function better, the body responds.

This is what you will feel:
• Better circulation
• Increased energy
• Faster recovery
• A more balanced inflammatory response

This is not about forcing the body—
it’s about supporting how it already works.

Why I Personally Use PEMF

After many years working with PEMF, this is why I use it:
every day—morning, afternoon, and night.

1. I support my body at the cellular level

Everything begins at the cell. Supporting that level helps everything else function more efficiently.

2. I help my body recover more efficiently

Daily life places constant demands on the body. PEMF helps support the body’s natural recovery processes.

3. I maintain better circulation and oxygen flow

Circulation plays a key role in how nutrients and oxygen reach tissues.

4. I support my energy and overall vitality

When the body is supported at a deeper level, energy tends to follow.

5. I make it part of my routine—not just when something is wrong

I use PEMF consistently as part of maintaining my wellness, not just reacting to discomfort.

Where do static magnets fit in?

While PEMF works through a dynamic, pulsing field, static magnets provide a constant magnetic field.

Both approaches support the body in different ways.

If you’d like to better understand how they compare and when to use each one, I explain in detail in one of the chapters of my book Beyond the Power of the Magnet.  I also wrote about it here:

A perspective to remember

Pain and dysfunction don’t always begin where you feel them.

They often begin at the cellular level:
• Low energy
• Poor circulation
• Accumulated waste

When you support the cell, you support the system.

A legacy behind this work

This work is not new to me.

As mentioned, in the early 1970s, my father, Dr. Ralph U. Sierra, was already working with magnetic fields in clinical settings—long before these ideas were widely accepted.

Years later, I continued that work in my own practice, integrating these principles into patient care and education.

Today, this understanding continues to grow, but the foundation has been part of my life and my work for decades.

Want to go deeper?

I explain this in more detail in my book, including how PEMF interacts with the body and a practical table of frequencies used for different tissues and health situations.

If you already have the book, this is a great moment to revisit that section with a fresh perspective.

If you want to experience PEMF personally, you can reserve a session with us at Health Magnetic Store & More.  Call or text us at 787.221.8865 and mention that you’re part of my community, have read this article, and if you’re already enjoying Beyond the Power of the Magnet, we have a special offer for you.

A closer look at what’s evolving

Last month, my husband, Dr. Jorge Jarrot, DC, and I attended a Centropix Academy, where we spent nearly 18 hours immersed in learning—absorbing, interacting, and sharing insights with others in the field of PEMF and molecular activation (PEMA). As a result, we refreshed our knowledge and confirmed that we are not only up to date, but continuing to grow in this field as well.

We have had the Kloud system for about four years now, and we use it as part of our personal nighttime routine. But like everything in this space, technology evolves—and I wanted to better understand what has advanced and how it can be applied more effectively today.

The experience was excellent. The speakers were knowledgeable, practical, and very grounded in how these systems are being used today.

Centropix focuses on two core technologies: Kloud and Bubble. While Kloud has already been part of our routine, Bubble was especially interesting to explore, offering a more immersive approach to working with pulsed electromagnetic fields. We have been wearing the Bubble for a couple of weeks now, and it feels amazing. I’ll be sharing more about this very soon—stay tuned.

We now have a deeper understanding of how these systems can be used, and I’ll be sharing more about this soon.

Final thought

PEMF is not about replacing the body’s intelligence.

It is about supporting it.

When the cell functions better…
everything else follows.

I’d love to hear from you
